Witnesses of a firework display gone wrong have described the 'screaming, panic and utter chaos' that ensued. The family event at Stone Cricket Club in Stoke-On-Trent was halted after multiple fireworks sprayed into the crowd of onlookers.
Reports suggest around six people were hit and injured, including children. One anonymous witness told StokeonTrentLive: "The fireworks kicked in bang on 7pm and by six or seven minutes past, it was utter chaos. There was a guy in an orange hoodie with a remote control – one came towards him, and we were 15 to 20 yards directly behind him and I thought 'that was weird'.
This same witness continued: "Then about 15 seconds later that's when they went past him and started dispersing to us. It was about five or six fireworks in a 30 yard space."

Another witness shared: "I've got two kids, we grabbed the kids, me and my wife and everyone started running back towards the big tree. I've never heard screaming like it."
"We could clearly see there was a little girl injured near the front. She got dragged back towards the club house then we left."
"We were just in shock. My eight year old said he's not going to another fireworks display again. Obviously, loads left, they were streaming out."
The fireworks display was stopped when they started flying into the crowd. But after a short break, the show went on. The man was shocked and upset that the event continued after the problem.

"There was a massive sense of panic in the crowd," he said. "It just shocked all of us – I'm more shocked at how it was allowed to carry on. There was no ambulance on standby."
"On my way out, we saw senior members of Stone Cricket Club and none of them moved. Literally, it was just they didn't react. Nobody reacted. That's when I couldn't believe it restarted. I think that's the biggest disappointment that it carried on."
Landen Burton, 51, from Bradeley, says he was standing by the medical tent and saw the injured people being taken in after the incident.
Mr Burton said: "A lady and a young girl were escorted into the medical tent and she seemed to be injured, it seemed like she had been hit. Then that was followed by a young lady with a young son then a lady was also escorted to the medical tent."

"Everything went quiet and then at that stage a lot of people were leaving, people were panicking and children were upset. And then an announcement came on the tannoy that there had been a technical difficulty but it would resume in five minutes which was quite bizarre really."
"It was a shock. You do hear about these things in the past when events like these have gone wrong but in this day and age with professional companies you don't expect this sort of thing to happen. It was just very concerning."
Stone Cricket Club and emergency services have been contacted to comment on the incident.
