A secret chamber yet to be discovered in the tomb of ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun could hold the answer to a missing body.

The large and unexplored chamber of Tutankhamun's tomb first reported three years ago has been discussed and considered by boffins and archaeologists who are seemingly stumped on what they can do to get through to the chamber.

It could lead explorers to a hidden tomb that may encase the missing body of Queen Nefertiti, the wife of Tutankhamun, who was responsible for radical religious changes in Egypt during her reign.

Their reforms saw old Gods in Egypt revolted and swept away by the Sun God Aten, a series of changes that brewed controversy at the time.

Archaeologists are still trying to get closer to the resting place of Queen Nefertiti, and for a few years now have believed the secrets of Tutankhamun's tomb could lead them there.

Scans of the tomb back in 2020 showcased a hidden corridor and the potential for two new rooms, and one of them could be the tomb of the missing Egyptian leader.

Another uncovered room, also yet to be explored, is considered a potential treasure room. What the rooms hold is still a mystery as archaeologists are yet to crack the room open.

British Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves first put forward the idea back in 2015, believing there could be secret chambers in the tomb of one of Egypt's most famous figureheads.

Expert Reeves said: "If Nefertiti was buried as a pharaoh it could be the biggest archaeological discovery ever." Fellow expert Dr Ray Johnson called the potential discovery "tremendously exciting" and even went as far to say there was definitely something behind the wall.

He said at the time: "Clearly there is something on the other side of the north wall of the burial chamber."
