A Spanish aristocrat and his wife have given new meaning to baby names considered to be a bit of a mouthful.
Fernando Fitz-James Stuart, The 17th Duke of Huéscar and heir apparent to the dukedom of Alba, and his wife Sofía Palazuelo recently baptised their second child with a name so long it can’t be registered.
Sofía Fernanda Dolores Cayetana Teresa Ángela de la Cruz Micaela del Santísimo Sacramento del Perpetuo Socorro de la Santísima Trinidad y de Todos Los Santos is the name in full, with an astonishing 133 characters and 25 separate parts to it.
But to be accepted by the Civil Registry the name will need to be shortened to either one compound name (hyphenated name) or two singular ones, reports MailOnline.
“In the registration, the name given to the child will be expressed, although no more than one compound name may be recorded, nor more than two simple ones,” indicates the second article of the law on names and surnames and their order, collected in the Official State Gazette.

The name is said to be a tribute to family members, religious devotions and the deceased Duchess of Alba, who was the Duke’s grandmother.
Spanish paper El Pais said: “The first name, Sofía, for example, was chosen in honor of her mother and grandmother, Sofía Barroso, and the second, Fernanda, as a tribute to her father, Duke of Huéscar, as well as her great-uncle, Fernando Martínez of Irujo, Marquis of San Vicente del Barco.”
One of Sofia’s namesakes – the late Duchess of Alba – was known as Spain’s richest woman.
And her full name wasn’t one that exactly rolled off the tongue either: María del Rosario Cayetana Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva.
She was the most titled person in the world, according to the Guinness World Records.

Sofia’s full name might have been read out at the baby’s baptism which took place in the parish of San Román in the historic center of Seville on October 7. The Duke’s first-born daughter was also baptised here in 2021.
Many guests were on hand to celebrate the big day according to El Pais, including Matilde Solís, the baby’s grandmother, and Jorge Rojas, a close childhood friend of the Duke of Huéscar.
The ceremony was followed by a dinner in the gardens of the Dueñas palace.
