UK to be battered by 16mm of rain per hour as Brits brace for wet end to week

Parts of the UK are set to be battered by up to 16mm of rain per hour as this week's downpours continue.

Much of the country is affected by weather warnings beginning today (Wednesday, December 6) which are expected to end by midnight on Thursday (December 7), the Daily Star previously reported. Before then, however, further deluges are expected nationwide.

Met Office weather maps suggest virtually the entire country will see rain tomorrow. Some regions โ€“ including parts of south Wales, southwest and northwest England and some areas in west and northern Scotland could be hit with between 8mm and 16mm of rainfall per hour.

The worst of the rain is expected to clear by tomorrow afternoon. The Met Office said: "Dull with pulses of rain, particularly heavy along south-facing hills and coasts.

"Becoming drier in the west during the afternoon. Widely windy with strong gusts and coastal gales. Noticeably milder."

The weekend will also bring with it some rather unpleasant conditions, the forecaster added. "An unsettled end to the week with further heavy showers and rain. Often windy, but feeling mild when sheltered with temperatures climbing above average for the time of year," it said on its website.
